In most Japans 1,780 municipalities, in fact almost 95% of the them, you wil find artistic manhole covers, unique to each town or city.
In a way it has become a part of the national culture.
The designs as you can see differs a lot, it is facinating to see the the creativity the artists have proven.
I de flesta japanska städer, ja nästan 95% av dem, hittar man vackert och konstnärligt dekorerade lock till inspektionshållen eller gatubrunnarna. Alla lock är unika för varje ort och stad.
De utsmyckade locken har näst intill blivit en del av den nationella kulturen.
Utformningen varierar mycket och man imponeras av kreativiteten hos dessa konstnärer.

En fin tanke och idé att ta in i Sverige. Hur många går inte gatan fram och tittar ner i marken. Mer konst till folket. :)
You know, Japanese people must "conform": once the manhole art became popular, virtually every municipality that seeks to attract tourists both domestically or internationally had to jump on the bandwagon.
However, you're right. Those manhole covers are fun and some of them are quite artistic. You should visit Japan sometime and see them yourself.
